Hurricane Helene Federal Resources
FEMA: Governor McMaster's request for an Expedited Major Presidential Disaster Declaration to provide federal aid to supplement state and local recovery efforts in response to Hurricane Helene has been approved. Greenville and Spartanburg counties have been approved for Individual Assistance.
FEMA approved Individual Assistance program help to Aiken, Anderson, Bamberg, Barnwell, Cherokee, Greenville, Greenwood, Lexington, Newberry, Oconee, Pickens, Saluda, and Spartanburg counties. This program provides direct financial assistance to residents who incurred uninsured damages to their property as a result of the storm. Individuals and business owners who sustained losses in the designated areas can begin applying for assistance by registering online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov, by calling 1-800-621- 3362, or by using the FEMA App.
Updated counties approved for Individual Assistance: Abbeville, Aiken, Allendale, Anderson, Bamberg, Barnwell, Cherokee, Edgefield, Greenville, Greenwood, Hampton, Jasper, Laurens, Lexington, McCormick, Newberry, Oconee, Pickens, Richland, Saluda, Spartanburg, Union, and York Counties and the Catawba Indian Nation.
SBA: The Small Business Administration offers low-interest disaster loans to businesses and homeowners affected by Hurricane Helene. Apply online at https://www.sba.gov/funding-programs/disaster-assistance or by calling 1-800-659-2955.
IRS: Those individuals and businesses in the Upstate and other areas affected by the devastation of hurricane Helene need time to recover and rebuild. In the aftermath of this storm, my team and I have been in discussions with the White House, Treasury, and other agencies to swiftly publish tax filing guidance. Following our efforts, IRS announced tax relief for individuals and businesses in the entire state of South Carolina. Click here for more information.
