Timmons Releases Statement on Passage of Select Committee Recommendations

Congressman William Timmons released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed H.Res. 756, historic legislation implementing the recommendations of the Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress:

“Today, the House voted on and passed nearly 30 bipartisan recommendations produced by the Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress, on which I am proud to serve. This Select Committee is the only truly bipartisan committee in Congress, made up of six Democrats and six Republicans. Recommendations must be approved by two-thirds of the Committee. We are the first Select Committee in several years to propose and adopt recommendations on a rolling basis, and we are also the first Select Committee in recent history to introduce our recommendations as legislation to ensure their implementation, which was just passed today.

I came to Congress because Washington is broken. But we can begin to mend that brokenness by working together – making sure Congress is more accountable, efficient, and transparent to the American people. The Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress is evidence of that fact. Through bipartisan collaboration, we have implemented recommendations that work to increase efficiency in Congress, improve orientation and education for new members, and increase accessibility for all to the legislative branch.”
