Timmons Supports Clean Reauthorization of Violence Against Women Act
Washington, DC,
March 17, 2021
Congressman William Timmons (SC-04) cosponsored H.R. 1892, a bill that would provide a clean, one-year reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). VAWA is a federal grant program which provides support for the safety of domestic violence survivors, increases prevention efforts, expands educational awareness on domestic abuse and sexual assault, and more. “As a former prosecutor of domestic violence cases, I know how important this issue is, and I believe VAWA must be reauthorized,” said Timmons. “Supporting survivors of domestic abuse should not be a partisan issue. We need to put politics aside and pass a clean reauthorization to ensure women and children across the country will receive the services and resources they need. While not the perfect outcome, a one-year, cleanreauthorization of VAWA will provide support and stability to law enforcement officials nationwide while Congress debates this important issue.” |
