House Passes Timmons’ Bill with Bipartisan Support as Part of FY22 NDAA
Washington,
December 7, 2021
Tonight, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2022 (FY22). The FY22 NDAA includes H.R. 4493, the Promoting Secure 5G Act of 2021, which was introduced by Congressman William Timmons (SC-04) earlier this year. Congressman Timmons released the following statement:
“As our military faces unprecedented challenges, I supported the FY22 NDAA to invest in our men and women in uniform, provide for our national defense, and counter China and Russia’s global influence. In addition to fully funding our military, some of the most important provisions I supported include a 2.7% pay raise for our troops, a reversal of President Biden’s cuts to missile defense, National Guard resources directed to the crisis at our southern border, the prevention of any DoD financial support from going toward the Taliban, and the prohibition of dishonorably discharging servicemembers who refuse the COVID-19 vaccine. “In addition to these critical measures that will help strengthen our national security and defend our country against foreign adversaries, the FY22 NDAA also contained my legislation, H.R. 4493, which seeks to counter China’s efforts to expand its 5G influence in countries receiving assistance from international financial institutions. In the global race to 5G, we cannot allow communist China to compromise these networks across the globe. Today, my colleagues in the House agreed and joined me in voting to protect 5G networks around the world.” |
