Timmons Statement on Proxy Voting Resolution
Washington, DC,
May 15, 2020
The House of Representatives today passed H. Res. 965, a resolution to change House rules to allow remote voting by proxy and official remote committee proceedings. Congressman William Timmons (SC-04) released the following statement: “Tonight the House voted to upend more than 200 years of precedent and allow remote voting by proxy. These new rules allow just 22 people on the House floor to pass legislation that impacts the entire country. Congress should be working on legislation to get millions of people and businesses back on their feet and restore our previously booming economy. To do so, we must be back in Washington discussing serious legislation, not hiding at home and legislating from our phones. Speaker Pelosi’s partisan resolution passed today will have us doing the latter.” ### |
