Congress

Washington is broken. I came to Congress to hold the federal government accountable to the people. Our national debt and deficit are skyrocketing, with little concern for the burden we are imposing on our children and grandchildren. Americans deserve a Congress that effectively represents them, solves big problems, and gets things done. Since taking office, I have successfully advocated for changes to make Congress work better for the American people.

For several years, I chaired the Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress, which worked to make Congress more effective, efficient, and transparent. We passed over 200 recommendations to improve how Washington operates. Today, many of those recommendations have been implemented and are helping Congress operate more efficiently. We worked to increase transparency, save taxpayer dollars, reduce waste and inefficiency, and reform our broken budget process.
